Lithuanian border guards caught a record number of illegal migrants

In Lithuania, they declared a record number of illegal migrants detained during this year. This was reported in the State Border Protection Service, Delfi writes.

According to preliminary data, the Lithuanian border guards caught 171 migrants, illegally crossed by the Belarusian-Lithuanian border. All detainees either have the citizenship of Iraq, or presented themselves with immigrants from this country.

It is noted that the total number of illegal people trying to get to Lithuania from the territory of Belarus exceeded three thousand this year, and 2366 such migrants were detained for one July. Most of them are immigrants from the countries of the Middle East and Africa.

Previously, the Deputy of the Seimas and the leader of the opposition party “Union of Peasants and Green Lithuania” Saulus Schversalis suggested that the Lithuanian authorities return the state of emergency (PE) in the country due to the influx of illegal migrants from Belarus.

July 26, in the State Protection Service, Lithuanian borders reported that this month Lithuanian border guards detained 100 times more illegal migrants from Belarus than in January.
