The Scientific and Technical Subcommittee of the UN Committee on the use of outer space in peaceful integers published a report in which he warned about a large number of asteroids potentially dangerous for the Earth. Document quotes RIA Novosti.
It is noted that humanity knows only about 40 percent of large asteroids and comets that crossed the Earth orbit. At the same time, more than 25 thousand such objects have been recorded. “It is estimated that only about 40 percent of the largest objects close to the land are identified,” reports in the report.
In 2020, the worldwide network of astronomical observatories collected almost 39.5 million records of observations on cosmic bodies. On April 17, 2021, researchers discovered 25,647 of them, which are closer to earth.
Scientific Head of the Institute of Astronomy of the Russian Academy of Sciences Boris Shustov said that scientists are known only about every tenth object of more than 100 meters, and bodies, 50 meters, similar to Tungusky meteorite – only one percent. The specialist added that Russia opens the insufficient amount of dangerous asteroids and comet compared to other countries.
Earlier, July 25, in the sky above Norway exploded giant sizes of meteorite. The residual glow was recorded on the video. It is noted that it is a rare and very large object. At the moment, it is not known the place of its fall, as well as the material from which it consists.
