US intercepted a record number of Russian aircraft since Cold War

Deputy Head of the US Air Force Headquarters General Clinton Hainaut said that last year the United States intercepted the record number of Russian military aircraft from Alaska since the Cold War. His words lead RIA Novosti.

So, according to him, there is now a trend of climate warming in the Arctic, which contributes to an increase in activity. “An interesting fact: not all manifestations of this activity of innocuous,” he clarified during the round table of the International Woodrow Wilson Center, dedicated to the Arctic Strategy of the US Air Force Ministry.

The American general noted that all these changes forced the Air Force to focus on the Arctic. It is expected that this will allow the United States to compete, as well as, if necessary, “give rebuilding to military rivalry”, which is now observed in the Arctic.

Earlier commander of the US Navy in Europe and Africa Admiral Robert Berk, said that the interceptions by the Russian armed forces of military aircraft and NATO ships are safe and carried out professionally. At the same time, he called on the American authorities to pay attention to the scale of Russian operations and the degree of modernization of the arms system and the fleet, which over the past 10-20 years has grown significantly.
