Proved link between mental diseases and mortality from COVID-19

At the University of Marseille in France, scientists have proven the relationship between mental disorders and the mortality rate from COVID-19. It is reported by Daily Mail.

A new study shows that patients suffering from light and middle forms of mental disorders, such as depression and disturbing disorders, are 1.8 times more likely die from coronavirus unlike healthy people. Mortality among patients with severe mental illness, such as schizophrenia and bipolar personality disorder, is observed 2.3 times more often. This is associated with the work of the immune system, which people with disorders are unable to protect the body from viral infection.

It is known that dementia and other neurological states are also the risk factors of the hard form of COVID-19. Scientists continue to look for an answer to the question of exactly how the coronavirus crosses with diseases caused by mental violations.

Researchers said that people with mental disorders should be in priority to pass into prevention from a new virus, because they are included in the risk group. Medical agencies should pay close attention to such patients and organize them full access to medical care.

Earlier in Russia, regions-leaders were named in terms of people with mental disorders. Most such Russians at the rate of 100 thousand people were recorded on Chukotka – 10 012.3. Then there is a Jewish autonomous region with an indicator of 6437.6 and the Altai region, where this number was 5834.9.
