Russia contributed to UN, first draft convention on countering cybercrime

Russia contributed to the United Nations (UN) the world’s first draft convention on countering cybercrime and illegal use of cryptocurrency. This was reported in the Russian General Prosecutor’s Office, RIA Novosti reports.

In particular, Moscow was offered to add new crimes to curb international offenses in the IT-sphere, as well as to expand the possibilities for arrests, confiscation and return of assets. “The project takes into account modern challenges and threats in the field of international information security, including criminal use of cryptocurrency,” the department noted.

It is noted that the interdepartmental Russian delegation, which was headed by the Deputy Prosecutor General of the country Peter Cities, introduced the draft Convention at the UN Headquarters in Vienna. The Prosecutor General’s Office stressed that Russia is the first of all countries prepared a draft universal convention to combat information crime.
