The American Air Force plane crashed near the Colony Glacier on Mount Gannett. It is assumed that the aircraft C-124 GlobeMaster crashed into a mountain at high speed. As a result of the crash, 41 one passenger and 11 crew members were killed. Nine dead passengers have not yet been identified. Their remains and personal belongings were delivered to Delaware for further analysis.

For the first time, the plane debris was found in 2012. Since then, the search for personal belongings and remains of the victims continues in the region. Search operation complicate heavy weather conditions in the mountainous location.

The number of victims in the plane crash in 2020 up to 299 people increased, which is 42 more than in 2019. At the same time, the number of college themselves fell more than twice – from 86 to 40. Mortality increased contrary to the coronavirus pandemic, due to which the number of international flights has sharply decreased.
