German Foreign Ministry explained goal in relations with Russia

Germany intends to develop pragmatic relations with Russia in areas of mutual interest. This was told by the head of the German Foreign Minister Haiko Maas, his words reported Rzeczpospolita newspaper.

Diplomat noted that the European Union is in tense relations with the Russian side. He stressed that the goal of Berlin is to preserve the dialogue with Moscow in those areas in which it is possible.

According to Maas, during the negotiations with Russia, Germany should listen and articulate their interests. “However, at the same time, in cases of violation of the law and provocations, we will continue to take a clear position, jointly and adequately react,” the minister said.

On June 23, German Chancellor Angela Merkel called on to invite Vladimir Putin’s President Vladimir Putin for the European Union Summit, which was held on June 24-25 in Brussels. She was supported by the President of France Emmanuel Macron, but the heads of other states and the governments of the European Union rejected this idea.
