Russia launched first “active” radar “Lian”

Launched on June 25, 2021 at 22:50 Moscow time with Plesetsk in the Arkhangelsk region, the Soyuz-2.1B rocket “Space-2550” spacecraft is the first “active” satellite of radar exploration 14F139 “PION-NKS” Space A complex of marine intelligence and target designation 14K159 “Liana”, writes BMPD blog in LiveJournal.

The publication notes that at present 14k159 “Liana” includes four “passive” satellites of radio engineering exploration 14F145 “Lotos-C1”. It is expected that another 6.5-ton 14F139 “Peony-NCC” will later be launched, which, like the first spacecraft, will be in orbit with a height of 500 kilometers.

Blob BMPD reminds that Satellites 14F139 “PION-NKS” are one of the “long-term” of the Russian naval space industry, whose launch times have been repeatedly transferred.

In May 2019, Izvestia, referring to the Ministry of Defense of Russia, reported that the formation of the system 14K159 “Liana”, which will allow to cover the entire land, will be completed in 2019. At the same time, the newspaper is a foreign analogue of “Liana” called three American radar satellites Lacrosse.
