Delta-version of the Coronavirus SARS-COV-2, which appeared in India, is more infected, but less dangerous in terms of the risk of hospitalization and death. The real threat of a new form of pathogen reveals the Edition Daily Telegraph.
The new coronavirus strain B.1.617.2 predominantly affects young people who have a fairly strong immunity to cope with infection. On the contrary, the elderly people who have high risk of life-threatening complications are amazed by this virus option. But, despite the growing number of outbreaks among schoolchildren, specialists have no data in favor of vaccination of young people under 18, since there are almost no serious symptoms among this population.
Delta-option is about twice the annual classic Wuhan strain (alpha option), but there is no evidence that it is more virulent, that is, it is capable of causing heavier consequences for the body when infected. These British doctors show that mortality rate for alpha variant reaches two percent compared with 0.3 percent for delta option. According to Professor Microbiology Peter Collignon (Peter Collignon) from the Australian National University, this fall in the risk of death may be due to the fact that either young people are more often infected with this strain, or evolved the virus. Usually, infectious agents circulating in people populations are becoming less dangerous in time, since it is evolving so that it is reproduced longer in the host body, without leading to serious consequences.
Current vaccines are effective against delta option. Thus, two doses of the Pfizer preparation provide 96 percent protection against the virus, preventing the risk of hospitalization. Two doses of the Astrazeneca vaccine give 92 percent protection. Thanks to vaccination, despite the sharp increase in the number of cases from a new strain, mortality in the UK has stabilized and is just over a decade a day.
