Tikhanovskaya commented on exit of Belarus from Eastern Partnership

Former presidential candidate, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya commented on the decision of the authorities of the country to suspend participation in the European Union program (EU) “Eastern Partnership”. This is reported in the Telegram channel of the opposition.

“The idea of the exit of Belarus from the EU EU initiative” Eastern Partnership “is a new demonstration of anywhere who did not leave the regime’s uncertainty. It takes place, but such actions only shows weakness and short-sightedness,” Tikhanov said.

According to her, the program opens up ample opportunities for Belarusians, and now the President of the Republic Alexander Lukashenko wants to deprive this person. “But I want to recall that all of his decisions from August 9, 2020 do not have legal strength: it represents only his interests that are apparent damage to the interests of the people,” said Tikhanovskaya.

Ex-Candidate added that Belarus is interested in continuing to participate in the “Eastern Partnership”.

“And we are my team and all democratic forces – will continue to work with our European partners and will do everything to in the Eastern Partnership projects, including the Summit this year, our homeland was represented by those who really have the right to speak from the name of the people” – Tikhanovskaya assured and expressed respect for the EU delegation in Minsk for their active position.

The decision to temporarily exit the Eastern Partnership was caused by the new sanctions of the European Union against Belarus, stated in Minsk. On June 24, the EU introduced the fourth sanction package. 166 people and 15 legal entities got under restrictions.
