Belorussia responded to “unprecedented” sanctions of EU

Belarus took measures in response to the sanctions imposed by the European Union (EU) in relation to the republic. This is reported on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Foreign Ministry) of Belarus.

In the department, they stated that they called the head of the EU representative offices in the Belarusian Dirk Dirk in connection with the “Unprecedented Restrictive Measures” of the EU. During the meeting, the Belarusian side reported the “absolute intractability of the application of sanctions as a pressure tool for a sovereign and independent state.”

The EU representative was offered to go to Brussels to convey to European politicians the position of Belarus. In addition, the permanent representative of the Republic under the EU was recalled for consultations in Minsk.

Belarus also stated a suspension of the Agreement on the readmission agreement with the EU. “We cannot fulfill our obligations under this Agreement in the face of the sanctions and restrictions introduced by the European Union. With deep regret, we state that the forced suspension of the Agreement will negatively affect the interaction with the European Union in the field of combating illegal migration and organized crime,” concluded Belarus.

In response to sanctions, the Belarusian side has banned the entry into the republic to “representatives of Eurostructures” and the EU citizens, which “contributed to the introduction of restrictive measures.” The Belarusian Foreign Ministry was hoping that “EU officials and its participating States are aware of the inferiority and futility of solutions to the use of a power approach” against the country.

Previously, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry suspended the participation of the country in the EU “Eastern Partnership” program.

June 24 EU introduced a fourth package of economic sanctions against Belarus. Under them were 166 physical and 15 legal entities. According to the measures taken, the EU limits the access of Belarus to its financial markets, introduces restrictions on the trade in petroleum products and potash fertilizers, as well as tobacco products. Under the ban was also the transfer of goods and technologies of military and dual-use and insurance services to the authorities of the republic. UK, Canada and USA connected to sanctions.
