Anomalous heat cost Europe with a sharp rise in price of electricity

The cost of electricity in a number of Baltic and Eastern European countries has grown sharply against the background of anomalous heat and at the peak exceeded 100 euros per megawatt-hour, Kommersant writes. We are talking about spot prices – those who have been set at the time of the conclusion of the transaction.

In Lithuania, in Lithuania, from 21 to 27 June, electricity on average cost 85.5 euros per megawatt-hour, which is 28 percent more than at the beginning of the month. The rise in price has become a record for almost six years. The mid-week price has grown in neighboring Estonia (by 24 percent to 76.15 euros per megawatt-hour) and Latvia (by 37 percent to 85.5 euros).

According to the Lithuanian system operator (LitGrid), the cost of supplies from Sweden and Poland led to the price surge of prices. Demand for electricity increased due to hot weather, and it is covered by expensive production of traditional fuel TPPs, follows from the LitGrid message. It affects the cost of energy and rise in prices for carbon dioxide emissions, now reaching 55 euros per ton. In addition, it was not without problems with deliveries from Russia: network bandwidth was limited due to planned repairs.

increased electricity prices and other EU countries. In Poland, prices at the week exceeded 88 euros per megawatt-hour, in the Czech Republic, a record of 106 euros was installed in Hungary, prices were also raised above 100 euros against the background of consumption growth. In Germany, prices due to heat reached 13-year-old highs, and in France – three-year-olds, PwC analyst Dmitry Stappran said. He explained that because of the weather, Europeans actively used air conditioners, and the production of wind energy, which makes a noticeable contribution to general production, while fell.

Previously, the heat took off in Europe and gas prices. June 21 reported that they reached $ 363 per thousand cubic meters, which became the maximum indicator since March 2018. At the same time, the gas is missing, because of which it has to go to coal, which also began to go up.
