France supported the Offer of German Chancellor Angel Merkel about the organization of the Summit of the European Union and Russia to establish a direct dialogue with Moscow. This was stated by the Prime Minister of the country, Jean Castex, his words reported TASS.
“France performed in support of the German initiative and shares the position that Mrs. Chancellor recalled,” the politician stressed. He noted that the proposal of the German side had no complete success. The Prime Minister concluded that Paris calls to resume work in this direction.
Earlier, Merkel called for inviting Russian President Vladimir Putin to the European Union Summit, which was held on June 24-25 in Brussels. She was supported by the President of France Emmanuel Macron, but the heads of other states and the governments of the European Union rejected this idea.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov suggested that Putin’s invitation idea to the summit could be connected with his meeting with the American counterpart Joe Biden in Geneva on June 16. Already after the EU refused Moscow in the summit, the Russian diplomat explained it by the Russophobian policy of some countries.
