The authorities of the Lodz Voivodeship of Poland agreed to close the coal power station Belkhatuv, located in the city of the same name. As follows from published documents, work will stop until 2036, reports The Guardian.
Belchatow is the largest power station in Poland, it produces the fifth of the entire generation of the country. At the installed capacity, it remains the first TPP in the European Union and the fourth in the world, and in addition, the station keeps leadership by harmful emissions in Europe.
Poland produces most of its electricity with coal, but under the pressure of the EU is forced to gradually refuse to use it. The increase in carbon dioxide emissions causes Warsaw to increase investment in alternative energy sources.
Information on the closure of the station appeared immediately after the PGE energy group abandoned the development of a coal cut in Zlochev. His mining was supposed to provide “Belhause” fuel, but the company concluded that the project would be unprofitable.
The decision on the fate of the station can help the Lodz Voivodship to be supported from the EU Fair Fundamental Foundation, within which the distribution of 17.5 billion euros is assumed. This money is used to help the most dependent on the dirty energy regions to soften the effects of energy equipment.
previously became known that the European Court suspended coal mining on the Polish Mine of Tours because of the Czech Claim. Mine is located near the border of states, and Prague argued that its development makes harm to the environment. However, the Polish authorities refused to fulfill the court’s demand, since it is fraught with turning off electricity in millions of inhabitants.
