In May, German Chancellor Angela Merkel made a speedy completion of the construction of the “Northern Flow-2”, since the country is experiencing a sharp need for gas. Almost half of the fuel imported into the EU is Russian. Due to the cold winter of 2020-2021, gas supplies to Europe from Russia increased by almost 30 percent, and the population of gas storages in the EU sharply decreased.

To date, “Northern Stream-2” is ready for 95 percent. It was planned to run at the end of 2019, however, due to the US pressure, it did not work, the completion time was transferred several times. Merkel stated that the project would be launched despite American sanctions.
