Scientists of the Rockefeller University in the United States determined that vaccines increase immunity in people who had already suffered from COVID-19, so that they receive protection even from new coronavirus options. This is reported in an article published in Biorxiv.
People who have recovered from coronavirus infection, as a rule, have a strong immunity against it within 6-12 months after the initial infection. Experts analyzed antibodies present in the blood of patients with COVID-19, and traced the evolution of immune molecules.
63 people who participated in the study were ill with COVID-19 in the spring of last year. The results of their analyzes have shown that with the time of antibodies generated by in-cells of the memory of the immune system, the coronavirus neutralized is better and better, which indicates the development of long-term and efficient pathogen protection.
These antibodies have further strengthened their action in 26 people who received at least one dose of the MODERNA or Pfizer vaccine. Antibodies were extremely resistant to the most dangerous options for SARS-COV-2, first allocated in the UK, South Africa and New York. These antibodies are produced by groups of highly developed in-cells of memory, which dramatically increase their number after vaccination.
Results show that timely additional doses (boosters) of currently available vaccines are the best way to provide additional protection to people who never hurt COVID-19.
