Priests banned to rape adults

Pope Francis changed the canonical right of the Vatican in such a way as to prohibit priests to make violent actions against other people. About it reports The Independent.

Pontiff acknowledged that adults can become victims of clergymen on a par with children. Now for “abuse of powers” will be provided for criminal liability. Also, if the priests rape a child or a “defenseless” adult, they can be deprived of spiritual Sana.

In addition, the new law cancels some of the authority, thanks to which priests could hide their crimes. His provisions will also extend to the laity living in the Vatican – as a punishment, a fine will be provided, an exception from the Christian community and dismissal.

The Catholic Church was repeatedly criticized for scandals with rape and abuse of power on the part of the clergy. Another scandal was associated with the abuse of two Polish priests. At the end of March 2021, Pope Francis decided to punish them in connection with the negligence associated with the facts of sexual violence in the Church. The priests received a prescription to live outside their dioceses, they were also forbidden to participate in religious holidays and secular events on their territory.
