Germany and France stated that they were configured to continue the dialogue with Russia. This is stated in a joint statement of the governments of the two countries released after the meeting of the Federal Chancellor Angels Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macgron. The document is posted on the official website of the head of Germany.
“Unclear issues with Russia – in particular, its destabilizing behavior and multiple violations of international law – complicate relations with it and require a decisive approach,” the heads said. They then stressed that nevertheless were committed to continuing to communicate with Russia on the basis of the general principles of the EU, as well as cooperation in the areas of joint interests.
Earlier on the same day, a similar statement was made by the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg: he stated that the Alliance wants to improve relations with the Russian Federation and continue dialogue.
