Premiere of Czech Republic was suspected of framing with EU money

Police Prague recommended presented to the current Prime Minister Angeu Babisha accusations of frauds with subsidies dedicated to the European Union. This is reported by Associated Press.

The investigation found that Babish is likely to be associated with a fray of two billion dollars. The prosecutor’s office will have to decide whether to raise accusations against politics. It is noted that the police have already given such a recommendation two years ago – but then the Prosecutor General Pavel Zeman stated that the conclusions received by investigators are premature, and evidence is missing.

The investigation concerns the farm included in the Agrofert holding belonging to Babis’s relatives, and to his political career – and himself. Agrofert combines more than 250 companies and could not receive subsidies intended for small and medium businesses.

Babish denies its involvement in this case. A separate investigation by the EU, however, concluded that the premiere had a “conflict of interests”. In 2019, mass protests were passed in the country demanding to send Babisha resign.

Andrei Babish is held by the post of Prime Minister since 2017. Prior to that was the Minister of Finance and First Deputy Chairman of the Czech Government since 2014. He ranks second in the list of the richest people of the Czech Republic.
