Russia to postpone supply of “aircraft of XXI century” abroad

In the near future, Russia will not supply the MS-21 aircraft to foreign customers, which is called “aircraft XXI century.” About this in an interview with the newspaper “Vedomosti” said the head of the Ministry of Industry, Denis Manturov.

Decision to postpone the sale is made because of the situation with the previous Russian liner – Sukhoi Superjet 100. In the event that the minister explained, the manufacturer chased after the quantity, and customers – for the cheapness, which led to problems.

The new project will first work on Russian companies, this is Aeroflot and Red Wings. Specific deadlines for testing and possible start of delivery of manturov did not name.

At the same time, he stressed that he did not hear anything on a sharp rise in price of the initial value of one MS-21, which was announced in the amount of $ 96 million. According to the minister, the need for additional funds is really there, but they are already allocated from the budget, the Rostex contributes to financing.

A significant delay in the deadlines for the delivery of Manturov explained the complexities of the project. He recalled that such miscalculations allow the market leaders – Boeing and Airbus. At the moment, it is expected that Aeroflot will receive the first liner in 2022, although the schedule was supposed to start its operation a year ago. Nevertheless, the delay made it possible to replace 40 percent of the on-board equipment, as well as make a fully Russian composite wing.

As for SSJ-100, Manturov expressed the hope that at some point most passengers on routes within the country will fly on these liners. Currently, they are already produced more than 200, which, for example, more than Soviet yak-42 liners, which was considered a highly separated aircraft.

The construction of the first MS-21 was completed in the fall of 2020, the Russian PD-14 engine was installed on it. The first flight of the aircraft took place in December last year. It is assumed that the liner will be able to compete Boeing 737 Max and Airbus A320NEO. In January, Manturov said that the production of MS-21 can make up to 100 units per year if necessary.
