The captain and shipowner of the detainee in Japan of the Russian merchant vessel “Amur” officially asked for help from the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Sapporo. This was announced by Consul Sergey Marin, reports RIA Novosti.
“Consul from yesterday evening there, the legal status has not changed, but the captain and shipowner officially requested our consular assistance,” said the Consul General. He added that the decision on this issue is expected in the coming days.
Earlier, Russian Consul said that the Russian commercial vessel “Amur” will leave the Japanese port, if the authorities of Japan are not put forward by the accusations due to the incident in the Sea of Okhotsk.
On May 26, the Russian trade ship “Amur” and the Japanese fishing vessel “Dai Hati Hokko-Maru” collided off the coast of Hokkaido.
