In sun creams found causing cancer

Independent laboratory Valisure found chemical carcinogen benzene in 78 sunscreen. Researchers are calling for sanitary supervision of food quality and medicines (FDA) US to withdraw these products. This is reported by the Live Science edition.

Scientists tested about 300 sunscreen and found that 27 percent contain benzene, which can provoke the development of cancer tumors. 14 products contain benzene above two parts per million, which exceeds the safe limit set by FDA to concentrate benzene in medical preparations.

benzene is a colorless or light yellow liquid, which is produced as a result of human activity – for example, due to automotive emissions and burning coal and oil. This chemical is also used in the production of some plastics, rubber, dyes, detergents, drugs and pesticides.

The impact of high levels of benzene causes the development of malignant tumors in people, including leukemia. The US safety and health and health care manual limits the effects of benzene in the air in the workplace to one part per million (PPM) per day and a maximum of five PPMs for a 15-minute period. The Environmental Protection Agency limits the content of benzene in drinking water up to 0.005 parts per million, which is also the limit for bottled water.
