Germany: called for international isolation of Belarus

The Vice-Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz called for international isolation of Belarus because of the incident with the forced landing of the Ryanair aircraft. The policy quotes the Berliner MorgenPost newspaper.

Scholz called an invalid detention of the creator of the Telegram channel NEXTA Roman Protasevich and his girls Sofia Sapgy. He believes that the international community must do everything so that Minsk is isolated and went to the liberation of prisoners.

In addition, Ex-Chancellor spoke about his expectations from the meeting of the Russian and Belarusian leaders of Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko, which should take place today. Scholz hoped that the Russian president would put pressure on his colleague and would force him to release Protasevich and Sarega.

“My expectations from the Kremlin are clear: Moscow should not ignore this monstrous act of air piracy,” the politician concluded.

On May 27, German Foreign Minister Haiko Masha stated that European sanctions against the Belarusian authorities are only the beginning of serious restrictive measures that followed the regime of the President of Alexander Lukashenko will not make concessions. According to him, the European Commission has already begun work on the first sanctions against Belarus. It was also reported that the perspective of new sanctions against Minsk is conceived in the USA: President Biden instructed the employees of the White House to think about possible measures.

The reason for the new sanctions was the incident with the emergency landing of the airline of the Ryanair airline in Minsk. On May 23, the liner, which followed the route Athens – Vilnius, made an emergency landing in the Belarusian capital after reports of mining received from Minsk airport. To accompany the aircraft, the Fighter MiG-29 of the Air Force of Belarus was raised. Immediately after landing, Belarusian security forces detained on board Protasevich. He is accused of creating extremist formation and calls to mass riots after the presidential election in August 2020.
