Germany revealed his opinion on compliance with Open Sky Treaty

Germany decided to remain in the Agreement on the Open Sky (Don) even despite the official refusal of the United States. This was stated by the representative of the government Shteaffen Zaibert, it quotes RIA Novosti.

“We adopted [the position of the United States] to note, the position of the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany under this contract remains unchanged. We consider the Don an important part of the arms control architecture,” said Ziebert.

He also revealed the opinion of Berlin regarding the importance of the agreement: they believe that the Agreement contributes to mutual transparency and confidence, as well as security strengthening. In addition, the representative of the Federal Republic of Germany stressed that in Germany regretted the US decision to leave Don.

The US State Department confirmed the final way out of Don on May 28. The interlocutor RIA Novosti said that the United States does not intend to return to the contract, “considering that Moscow could not take any actions to return to its observance.”

Deputy Foreign Ministry of Russia Sergey Ryabkov called such a decision error.
