British researchers from the Environmental Organization Platform London called the new advantages of the short working week. The argument in favor of the Four Day served as a forecast of a significant reduction in harmful carbon dioxide emissions, is indicated in the report of activists prepared as part of the 4DayWeek national campaign.
The document describes in detail the potential of a gradual reduction of working time working hours of the British up to 30 hours a week. An analysis of environmental risks and the level of consumption of residents showed that with a four-day number of carbon dioxide emissions by 2025 decrease by 127 million tons, which is more than the total carbon footprint of Switzerland and is the fifth of the level of current emissions in the UK.
Four day without wage loss will lead to a reduction in power consumption and emissions from transport. Researchers argue that the effect is similar as if the entire private fleet was removed from the roads of Great Britain – 27 million cars.
Initiative support activists are confident that reduced working time will create new jobs, improve the mental and physical health of the working people.
“The transition to a four-day working week with fair payment will help us to change the values in society, free more time for relaxation and care for loved ones,” said the Environment Researcher and the author of the PLATFORM London Lori Sompelat.
In Spain and Scotland, four days pilot programs have already launched at the national level. The benefit from the short working week appreciated the International Business – the Netherlands company Unilever introduced a four-day schedule for employees in New Zealand in December 2020.
Russia also takes steps towards the Western trend with a reduction in working time. The head of the Ministry of Labor Anton Kotyakov on May 27 reported that the Office is ready to consider the initiative of the transition to the four-day. In 2020, the question of the adjustment of labor legislation and the introduction of the short working week was announced former president and prime minister, deputy head of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev.
