Specialists of the Scientific and Advisory Committee for the UK Food (SACN) identified that one of the ways to cope with diabetes is a low-carbohydrate diet, which in just six months reduces blood sugar levels and improves the condition of overweight patients or obesity. Researchers report published on Gov.uk.
Scientists analyzed existing weight change data, blood sugar levels, blood fat and drug use. People who observe a low-carb diet (13-40 percent of total energy consumed), in the first three months they lost more weight than those who adhered to an ordinary diet (41-55 percent). It was also observed an improvement in such indicators, as the level of glycated hemoglobin HBA1C, blood glucose.
As the authors of the report are written, in general, there is not enough evidence that the low-carb diet can be useful for people with a second-type diabetes, but without obesity. For adults with diabetes and obesity, a diet can be recommended for a period of up to six months to improve the glycemic control and triacylglycerol concentration. The diet should include solid grain products or high fiber products, a variety of fruits and vegetables. Consumption of saturated fats should be limited.
