Head of European Commission recalled importance of Russia for EU

Head of the European Commission Ursula von der Lyien reminded Russia’s importance for the European Union (EU). It is reported by RIA Novosti.

According to her, Russia, despite the “destabilizing activities” against the European Union, remains the nearest and largest neighbor of the EU, the source of trade and investment. The head of the EC added that Russia is also an important player in the international arena “to confront global challenges and solving regional issues.”

von der Lyien reported that he instructed the head of Evroodiplomatia Josep Borrel to prepare a report on EU relations with Russia.

Earlier, the European Union called the achievement of stability the main goal in relations with Russia. The high-ranking diplomat EU said that the further development of interaction with Moscow will be discussed within the framework of the Strategic Discussion at the EU Summit in Brussels on May 24. According to him, Europe in relations with Russia will continue to follow previously developed principles.
