The European Court has suspended coal mining on the Polish mine due to the Czech Claim. The scandal between the two states of the European Union after the accusations of the industrial enterprise in the environmental damage staged the energy of all Poland, writes Associated Press.
Czech government demanded from Poland to roll the activities of the “Torov” mine in the city of Bogatyn, which is located near the state border. The authorities argue that the enterprise harms the environment, as well as residents of several neighboring settlements of the Czech Republic.
The Supreme Court of the EU issued a temporary ban on coal mining in Torov, but the Polish authorities refused to fulfill the requirements, since the suspension of the mine will lead to the turning off of electricity in millions of inhabitants of Poland. From the mine, the station is published, which gives seven percent of all electricity in the country. Poland’s authorities fear that due to the ban, the enterprise will have to shorten tens of thousands of miners.
The dispute of the two states aggravates the common goal of the EU countries on the transition to the zero carbon emissions by 2050. About 48 percent of energy in Poland is obtained from stone coal, 17 percent – from more polluting brown. On renewable sources and biofuels account for 25 percent of the energy produced, about 10 percent brings gas. The license for coal mining in Torov is valid until 2044.
Czech Prime Minister Andrei Babish and Chairman of the Government of Poland Mateuš Murezetsky discussed the situation with the mine at the EU Summit in Brussels on May 24 and 25. Babish insisted on the full suspension of the mine, emphasizing that the country is not going to refuse the lawsuit. In turn, the deputy chairman of the Government of Poland Yatsek Sasin at the Torov Meeting reported on the development of a joint environmental program jointly with the Czech Republic. Poland invests about 45 million euros (56 million dollars) in the ecoofund. “On the closure of a mine in the” Turko “speech does not go due to catastrophic risks for energy and the economy of Poland,” added Sasin.
All countries of Europe are gradually refused by the coal industry in favor of renewable energy sources. In 2020, environmental activists insisted at the closure of the latter in England mines, which worked for about 200 years and annually produced 150 thousand tons of coal.
