Today, May 25, 2021, marks the 90th anniversary of the birthday of the Hero of the Soviet Union, issuing a cosmonaut’s pilot of the USSR Georgy Grechko. Georgy Mikhailovich – a scientist who took part in the preparation and launch of many Soviet spacecraft and visited himself three times in an near-earth orbit.
George Grechko was born on May 25, 1931 in Leningrad. After graduation in 1955, the Leningrad Military-Mechanical Institute worked as an engineer, a senior engineer, head of the OKB-1 group (now, the National Space Corporation named after S.P. Korolev, is part of the state corporation “Roskosmos”). Participated in the development of the first Soviet satellites and interplanetary stations. On May 23, 1966, he was enrolled in the 731st Division of the TsKBEM, the head of the group of candidates for cosmonaut tests TSKBEM, and on May 27, 1968, the order of the Minister of General Engineering was enrolled in the TsKBM cosmonaut detachment.
His first space flight George Grechko performed in January – February 1975, together with Alexey Gubarev on the Soyuz-17 ship, visiting the Salute-4 orbital station. The second flight G.M. Grechko has fulfilled from December 1977 to March 1978 together with Yu.V. Romanenko on the ship “Soyuz-26”. The crew performed the work at the Salute-6 station. Cosmonaut went to his third space flight in September 1985, together with Vladimir Vashutin and Alexander Volkov, on the ship “Union T-14”. 8 days after work on board the Salute-7 station, the crew returned to the ground.
For three flights, George Grechko spent in orbit 134 days 21 hours 32 minutes 52 seconds and performed one way out into open space. For the space flights, Georgy Mikhailovich was twice awarded a high rank of the Hero of the Soviet Union (in 1975 and 1978). After completing the first flight, he was awarded the honorary title “Pilot-cosmonaut of the USSR”.

Georgy Mikhailovich was an honorary doctor of the Baltic State Technical University in St. Petersburg. From under his feather there were 28 scientific publications. Cosmonaut had many sporting achievements: 2 discharge on planyrism, 3 discharge on airport sports, 2 category on the shooting of a rifle and gun, 1 discharge on parachute sports, was a candidate for the Master of Auto Sports.
Double Hero of the Soviet Union, the cosmonaut pilot of the USSR Georgy Mikhailovich Grechko died on April 8, 2017 at the 86th year of life.
