US allowed South Korean rockets to fly to any distance. The President of South Korea Moon Zhe In and the American leader Joe Biden agreed to abolish the guide to the use of missiles by Seoul, RIA Novosti reports.
The document meant restrictions on the creation and use of missiles with a range of more than 800 kilometers.
“We agreed to strengthen our defensive readiness and confirmed the commitment of the transfer of operational management (OPCON) by South Korean troops from the United States to South Korea. I am also pleased to declare the termination of the revised guidelines on missiles,” said Moon Zhe in.
He called it a “symbolic” and significant measure that demonstrates the reliability of the alliance.
Earlier, the American leader called the North Korea question and the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula with its main priority in foreign policy. Biden stated that he condemns the last rocket launches of the DPRK and promised the corresponding answer. He added that it was opened for diplomacy in contacts with Pyongyan.
Since 2018, the United States and the DPRK are negotiating the denuclearization of North Korea. Former US President Donald Trump declared that he was ready to remove sanctions from the republic in case of agreement on this issue. However, the last negotiations in October 2019 failed, which were announced in Pyongyang, but denied in the United States. In December 2020, the DPRK reported that they did not need further dialogue with the United States on the issue of denuclearization: Pyongyang refuses to reduce the reserves of nuclear weapons unilaterally.
