Gazprom refused the idea of building a gas pipeline to India, said the deputy chairman of the holding of Elena Burmistrov, writes “Interfax”.
She noted that the project offered the Indian side, but this is too capital-intensive route. Burmistra added that the company does not want and will not build a gas pipeline to Japan, since “is able to carry out the supply of LNG into Japan, thereby closing demand.” The deputy chairman of the Board also said that Gazprom and the Mongolian side agreed on the route of the continuation of the Power Siberi-2 gas pipeline.
The idea of construction of the connecting hocquido and Sakhalin gas pipeline with a length of 1.5 thousand kilometers was discussed since 2012. The cost of the project was estimated at 6.7 billion dollars.
The idea to build a gas pipeline from Iran to India through Pakistan arose in 1996. However, India came out of the project, since in 2008 the United States introduced sanctions against Iran because of the nuclear program. In 2017, Russia signed with Iran and Pakistan memorandums, in accordance with which the parties intend to support the project for the construction of a gas pipeline. The project had to participate Gazprom.
Earlier it was reported that Gazprom, which basically focused on the supply of natural gas, decided to change the strategy “a little bit”. The head of the company Alexey Miller said that now more attention will be paid to the creation of new gas processing facilities.
