Creating a USA in the framework of the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) of the new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBD) for replacing MinuteMan III, consisting of 1970, will cost $ 38 billion cheaper than support for the last until 2075, writes Defense News, referring to the statement of General Timothy Ray.
The publication notes that at present the cost of the GBSD program is estimated at 95 billion dollars. For comparison, this amount exceeds a third of the revenue part of the budget of Russia for 2021 (18.8 trillion rubles, or $ 254.9 billion at the rate on May 19).
Defense News writes, currently in the United States is considered the possibility of extension until 2040 service life and reduction of the number of MinuteMan III missiles. In this case, the support of old missiles is likely to cost American taxpayers cheaper than creating new ones.
In October 2019, The Washington Post newspaper wrote that the Military Industrial Company Northrop Grumman was the only applicant for the contract for the creation of GBSD for the Pentagon.
