Russia called its desired role in the conflict of Israel and Palestine – the country is ready to make a mediator during negotiations between the parties. The deputy head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Mikhail Bogdanov stated the Ambassador of Israel in Moscow, Alexander Ben Tsvi, reported on the website of the foreign policy department.
The diplomat stressed the need for a speedy settlement of the crisis using international law.
Bogdanov said that Moscow is concerned about the escalation of the situation in the Gaza Strip. He recalled that the parties should not allow further aggression, which can lead to new victims among the civilian population.
On May 17, Russia invited to hold Palestinian-Israeli negotiations in Moscow against the background of exacerbation of the situation in the region. According to the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Maria Zakharova, Moscow is already working on organizing such a meeting and discusses it both with the parties to the conflict and with members of the “Middle Eastern Quartet”
The aggravation of the conflict between Palestine and Israel began with the clashes of the inhabitants of East Jerusalem. Then, on May 10, Palestinian groups of Hamas and “Islamic jihad” began a massive shelling of Israel – more than three thousand missiles were released on the territory of the country. In response, the Israeli army called on five thousand reservists and inflicts air strikes for goals in the Gaza Strip. Collisions are still coming.
