Russia sharply reduced investments in US public debt

Russia sharply reduced investments in US state securities, the data of the US Ministry of Finance.

The department estimated that in February Russia owned $ 5,756 billion US Buligations, and in March this figure decreased to $ 3.976 billion. At the same time, the share of long-term securities increased three times, from 306 million to $ 1.08 billion, and the volume of short-term bonds decreased from 5.4 billion to 2.88 billion dollars.

Russia in recent years is not among the largest owners of the US public debt. If in 2010 the volume of investments reached maximum 170 billion, then from April 2018, under the threat of sanctions, Moscow decided to get rid of American government bonds to the maximum. In February last year, their volume was $ 12.58 billion, twice as much as at present.

Earlier it became known that Russia’s public debt in 2020 increased by 5.42 trillion rubles, or by 39.9 percent, and amounted to 18.99 trillion rubles, or 17.8 percent of GDP.
