US Secretary estimated likelihood of buying Greenland

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken estimated the likelihood of buying Greenland Island. Reports about it “Interfax”.

According to him, at the moment Washington, within the framework of cooperation with Dania, supports links with its autonomous territory of Greenland. “I focus on watching ahead. And a short answer: no,” said Blinken in response to the question of whether the United States intends to consider buying the island.

In August 2019, it was reported that the then US President Donald Trump considered the possibility of buying Greenland. This idea was discussed with his advisers who considered the plan economically appropriate. Later, the former American leader confirmed the interest in acquiring the island and compared a possible purchase with a major transaction acquisition. Washington also announced readiness every year to pay Denmark Subsidies in the framework of the transaction for the purchase of Greenland in the amount of 600 million dollars. It was also noted that Trump offered to exchange Puerto Rico on Greenland.

In Greenland, who received wide autonomy from Denmark in 1979, about 57 thousand people live. Most of them are about 80-90 percent – are indigenous residents of Eskimos. Their main classes are hunting and fisheries.
