Police in Vancouver confused a black judge with a criminal. It is reported by the Canadian publication Global News.
81-year-old Selwin Romilly, who became the first black judge of the Supreme Court of the province of British Columbia and retired a few years ago, said that he walked along the embankment when five policemen approached him. The officers mistakenly accepted him for a wanted 40-50-year-old black man whom was suspected of an attack on passersby.
The police reported Romilly that his appearance coincides with the orientation obtained, and handcuffed “from fears for their own security”. After the identity of the former judge was released. Romilly called Incidant shameful and urged the police to understand before thoughtlessly sharpen people in handcuffs. After the incident, the mayor of the city apologized to the former judge, who called the detention of “systemic racism”.
Racism remains a serious problem and in the neighboring US Canada. So, President Joe Biden stated that white racists are the main terrorist threat within the United States. The American leader called the supporters of the superiority of the White race and members of the Ku-Klux Klan “the most dangerous people in the United States.” The politician stressed that supporters of these views are “mental and dangerous people.” According to him, the new administration will examine the impact of the former military and police on the growth of the popularity of this movement.
