In Denmark, wanted to follow Russia due to increased activity in the Arctic. This was stated by the Foreign Minister of the Foreign Affairs of Eppe Kufood, following the results of the meeting with the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, reports TASS.
The diplomat stressed that in Copenhagen noted the strengthening of the presence of the Russian side in the Arctic region. He added that the authorities of Denmark would follow the actions of Moscow to ensure the independence of the kingdom and his interests in the Arctic.
Kufood also noted that Russia resumed the work of several military bases in the north-east of the country. He stated that in the foreign policy department learned about the opening of the bases closed after the completion of the Cold War.
Blinken, in turn, highly appreciated the efforts of the Danish security authorities in the Arctic region. “I believe that Denmark takes responsibility in the Arctic, including the Arctic Package,” the politician stressed.
Earlier it was reported that Russia is concerned about the NATO offensive in the Arctic and plans to raise this issue at a meeting of the Arctic Council, which will be held in Reykjavik on May 20. Responding to the concern of the West by the military activity of Russia in the Arctic, the Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov recalled that this is the Russian territory and therefore Moscow has the right to do everything necessary to ensure their own security.
On May 13, the Russian Foreign Ministry reproached Norway in the militarization of the Arctic after May 10, the US nuclear submarine arrived at the civilian harbor of Troms in the north of the country.
