Russia suggested restarting negotiations between Israel and Palestine

Russia suggested restarting direct negotiations between Israel and Palestine to resolve the situation in the Gaza Strider. This is reported on the site of the country’s Foreign Ministry.

May 16 Russia participated in the emergency consultations of the Middle East Quartet, which also includes the UN, EU and the USA. Special Representatives discussed possible steps to deoxize the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The Russian side of the teleconference presented the Special Representative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs on the BLU Vladimir Safronkov.

It is noted that the Quartet considered ways to solve the situation for the rapid cessation of fire and the protection of the civilian population. Diplomats also emphasized the importance of compliance with the norms of international law.

Russia declared the need to create “favorable conditions for opening the political prospects for the settlement of the crisis.” Moscow also noted the importance of maintaining the “principle of two states” – Israel and Palestine, which should coexist peacefully and solve conflict issues through negotiations.

The Foreign Ministry reported that under current conditions it is necessary to organize an additional meeting of the Quartet with representatives of Israel and Palestine, as well as Arab countries.

On May 10, Palestinian groups began a massive shelling of Israel – a total of more than a thousand missiles were issued in the country. In response, the Israeli army called on five thousand reservists and conducted the operation of the “Guardies of the Wall”. Collisions continue so far.

As of May 16, ten Israelis were killed since the beginning of the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Palestine as a result of Israeli shelling lost more than two hundred people.
