WHO: warned about risk of stroke due to overtime

The World Health Organization (WHO) warned that overtime work longer than 55 hours per week increases the risk of a stroke by 35 percent, and death from the ischemic heart disease by 17 percent. Such data are given in the WHO and International Organization (ILO) report, transfers TASS.

It is noted that in 2016, 398 thousand people died from stroke and 347 thousand – from heart disease, since they worked not 35-40 hours a week, but 55 and longer. From 2000 to 2016, mortality due to excessive work on acute violation of the blood supply of the brain increased by 19 percent, and from heart disease – by 42 percent. Recycling mostly affects men.

“No work is worth it to expose themselves to the risk of stroke or heart disease,” said Tedros Adan Gebresus, CEO. He added that due to the coronavirus pandemic, many people moved to remote employment, as a result of which the line between the house and work is often erased. In addition, a number of companies are forced to save funds, so employees work more for their former salary.

The head of the organization recommended employers to draw up restrictions on labor life to protect the health of personnel. The World Health Organization has made the adoption of laws prohibiting processing.

Previously analysts Goldman Sachs, who set up in the American bank after the start of the pandemic, complained about the “inhuman” working conditions. It is noted that they have to work on average 95 hours a week, that is, almost 14 hours every day without days off.
