RCC “Progress” completed welding of oxidant tank for Soyuz-5 rocket

In the Progress Rocket and Space Center (Samara, is part of the state corporation “Roscosmos”) completed the welding of the oxidant tank (Tank “O”) of the first stage for the new Soyuz-5 carrier missile. Conducted X-ray control confirmed the absence of defects when performing welds.

The specialists of the rocket and space center made a full-size imitator of the oxidizing agent of the new generation “Union-5” with a diameter of 4100 mm. After the installation of intra-bag equipment, the Bak “O” will be sent to the Central Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering (enters Roscosmos) for dynamic tests. Production of the oxidizing agent of the first stage “Union-5” – a significant step in the production of a new generation launch vehicle for the RCC “Progress”.

A promising two-stage medium-class rocket “Soyuz-5” is developed in order to ensure the launches of automatic spacecraft on solar-synchronous, high-elliptical, geopheffect and geostationary orbits, including using acceleration blocks. It will use new engines in its composition.

Magic engine of the first stage of the RD-171 MV of the development of the Scientific and Production Association “Energomash” named after Academician V.P. Glushko and the engine of the second stage of the RD-0124 MS of the development of the Voronezh Design Bureau of Himavtomatics (both enterprises are included in the perimeter of Roskosmos) provide characteristics on a fuel pair of oxygen – naphthyl, close to the maximum. The launches of the new carrier missile are planned from the Baikonur cosmodrome within the Russian-Kazakhstan project “Baiterek”.
