Minister of Energy of Russia Nikolay Shulginov eliminated the possibility of competition between Russian pipeline and liquefied natural gas (LNG) for deliveries to Europe. In an interview with the magazine “Energy Policy” he stated that the problem is rather contrived, because there are countries in the region where the Russian pipe is not reached.
According to him, the Russian LNG could buy, for example, Spain. In addition, Russian companies are able to promptly send their products to other markets, where prices are growing.
The head of the department indicated that a competitor for Russian pipeline gas is LNG from Qatar and the United States, but the stability of supplying gas pipelines looks an advantage. At the same time, Schulginov stressed that Russia should develop LNG, while there is a window of possibilities, and for this you need to master the Arctic, including the Yamal and Taimyr Peninsula.
Touching on the themes of the North Stream-2 gas pipeline, the official recalled the words of Vice-Premiere Alexander Novak, who promised that by the end of the year the project will work.
As for the possible supply of hydrogen on it, this idea is still questionable. Shulginov noticed that there are no standards for the construction of such pipes and the proportions of the mixture. The topic is still complex, and developments in this regard are being conducted. He recalled that in front of Russia there is a challenge to take 20 percent of the global hydrogen market in all niches.
Earlier it was reported that, as of May 1, the price of gas in Europe was recorded recorded from mid-January. A thousand cubic meters traded at 286 dollars. The reason for this dynamics was the reduction of LNG supplies.
