Rosneft completed the first in 2021 field studies of the population of polar bears, which are conducted within the Company’s corporate environmental program. Specialists of the Institute of Ecology Problems and Evolution named after Seversow RAS conducted animal monitoring during the exit of females from the birth of Berloga on the island of Aleksandra Archipelago Land Franz Joseph. The total length of the expedition routes amounted to more than one and a half thousand kilometers. About this “Lente.ru” reported in the press service of Rosneft, where they stressed that the company pays primary attention to environmental protection when planning and maintaining economic activities.
By agreement with the Ministry of Environment of Russia Rosneft implements the program for the preservation of the biological diversity of the Arctic ecosystems, which is part of the national project “Ecology”. Specialists of the Arctic Scientific Center of the Company together with scientists from the leading research institutes of the country are studying the populations of the White Bear, Luza, White Seagull, Wild Reindeer. These animals belong to the types of bioindicators of ecosystems. According to their state, scientists conclude on the state of the fragile nature of the Arctic.
During the last expedition, scientists recorded 15 individuals of polar bears. Nine animals are investigated using the method of distance immobilization that does not represent the threats of their lives and health. Experts conducted a complex of morphometric measurements of the parameters of the vital activity of bears, weighing, sampling of blood and wool for genetic, biochemical and toxicological analyzes.
On three females, special collars with satellite transmitters of the Argos system were put. Signals coming from these devices allow remotely monitor the movements of animals. The first data of the transmitters recorded the migration of the Maunditz with cubs from the island of Aleksandra to the island of Georg’s Island and the survey of the coastal bays of this island.
