UN Secretary-General Anthony Guterrish called for countries to prevent a new cold war. This is reported by TASS.
The head of the organization recalled that she had previously warned about the danger of exacerbation of relations between the leading powers. According to him, the world is experiencing difficult time and therefore international cooperation is currently necessary.
“We must overcome the false discrepancy between the national sovereignty and human rights, forming a holistic look at human rights, their indivisibility and versatility,” said Guterry.
The UN Secretary General expressed the view that the revival of the world’s powers will help to rally, the revival of the overall commitment to fundamental values. To do this, Guterry, the UN, it is necessary to make every effort to build diplomacy, strengthen confidence between states, find the rapprochement points between them and become an intermediary in the union of powers.
The statement of the Secretary General sounded during the meeting of representatives of the organization member countries with candidates for the next Secretary General of the UN. It is noted that the only candidate at the moment is Guterrish himself, which occupies the post of head of the organization since January 2017. Its five years expires December 31, 2021.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the situation in bilateral relations with the United States could be worse than the Cold War. He noted that despite the serious tension and crisis moments in the 1950s – 1980s, the parties experienced mutual respect for each other, which now “is in deficiency”.
