Period of resumption of construction “Northern Flow-2”

The construction of the North Stream-2 gas pipeline can be resumed at the end of May. Now it is suspended due to the lawsuit of German ecologists from the NABU organization, reports news with reference to the press service of the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH).

“In March 2018, the NORD Stream 2 operator received a permanent permission to lay the pipeline from the end of May to the end of September,” said the organization.

Previously, NABU challenged the resolution of BSH on laying the pipe in the “exceptional economic zone of Germany” on the Baltic Sea at a plot of 16.5 kilometers. It is valid until the beginning of summer. According to German ecologists, the gas pipeline destroys the habitat on the seabed in the area of ”more than 16 football fields”. Also, experts noted that the intervention in the ecosystem requires compensatory measures.

At the end of April, German authorities wanted to quickly complete and put into operation the Russian export gas pipeline “Northern Stream-2”. The FRG stressed that the country still needs reliable gas supplies from Russia.

Initially, the North Stream-2 should have been commissioned at the end of 2019. However, due to the limitations imposed by the United States, the project participants began to leave it.
