Europe: detained 31 mafia after a large-scale operation

In Europe, the police detained 31 mafiosi after a large-scale operation conducted in Italy and Germany. This is reported on the European Union Police Service website “Europol”.

Presumably detained are the participants of the Calabrian mafia grouping “NDRANGETA”, operating in different regions of Italy and other countries. It is suspected of international drug smuggling and money laundering.

The detention followed the operation “Polino”, during which 84 suspects in Italy and Germany were detained in 2018.

“Total [during the operation], at least several hundred thousand euros, weapons, cocaine, elite vehicles and decorations were seized. Evaluation of the amount of seized money continues, bank accounts are frozen,” the report says.

Earlier it was reported that the Italian mafiosi brand Ferin Claude Biara, about seven years in the run, found a culinary blog on Youtube. In 2014, the Italian authorities issued an order for the arrest of Biara for participating in the illicit trafficking of cocaine organized in the south of Italy by one of the clans of the Calabrian mafia group “NDRANGETA”. He escaped from the country and hid from the police.
