Belarus: promised to clean whole “bloodthirsty opposition”

Commander of the internal troops of Belarus Nikolay Karpenkov in an interview with the SVT TV channel promised to find and clean the whole “bloodthirsty opposition” remaining in the country. The text of the conversation published the publication Tut.by.

According to him, the intelligence agencies and Belarusian law enforcement officers “know everything” about those who remained in the country disagree with the results of the presidential election of 2020. The Silovik promised “inevitable retribution” for any statements against power and compared what is happening in the country with a counter-terrorism operation. “The fight against them will be carried out as the struggle of the” most humane state “in relation to Osame Bin Laden and its followers,” said Karpenkov.

He added that the internal troops are “the same people”, which will be completely trusted by President Alexander Lukashenko. “The army supports the head of state. We will protect our people, and the head of state,” added the commander.

Earlier, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Vladimir Makay admitted that the states sometimes applied the power to suppress the demonstrations overly, but justified this to protect the country’s sovereignty. “It was an adequate response to those absolutely non-line protests, violent protest actions,” said Makay.

Protests continued in Belarus after the presidential election on August 9, 2020. They were brutally suppressed by the security forces. Tens of thousands of people were detained, many told about torture and beating in insulators. Four people died in clashes with internal troops and police.
