Oxford University scientists have shown that COVID-19 is a great danger to pregnant women than previously thought. Experts presented their conclusions in the article published in Jama Pediatrics magazine. Briefly about the study tells the edition of the Science Alert.
In the period from March to October 2020, researchers watched 2130 pregnant women from 18 countries, while 706 of them were diagnosed with COVID-19. For each patient infected with COVID-19, there were two pregnant healthy women from the same hospital on the same date. Experts observed their condition up to childbirth and discharge from the hospital.
It turned out that pregnant women with SARS-COV-2 infection are subject to special risk (50 percent higher) heavy infections, hospitalization in the separation of intensive therapy and even death. Babies are also much more often (three times) born prematurely and had other complications. However, asymptomatic patients, the risks were the same with those who did not hurt COVID-19.
