Tokyo intends to continue to fight for the recognition of the Kuril Islands. This, as RIA Novosti reports, is referred to in the published Japanese Foreign Ministry “Blue Book on Diplomacy” for 2021.
It says that the Office will continue persistent negotiations with Moscow on the issue of South smoked. Japan intends to conclude a peace treaty with Russia based on its basic position.
The Agency notes that the problem of “northern territories” – so the Japanese call the southern part of Kuril – in Tokyo they consider the most difficult in relations with Moscow. At the same time, the Dialogue of the Japanese side intends to build “in a wide range of areas.”
In March, Japan Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga promised to negotiate with Russia about the southern smoked and solve this problem by dialogue. In the same month, the representative of the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov excluded Russia’s refusal from the Kuril Islands.
Following the results of the Second World War between Moscow and Tokyo, a peace treaty was not concluded. The main obstacle for its signing was the unresolved territorial dispute around the southern part of Kuril – Islands ITUURUP, Kunashir, Shikotan and group of Habmioma Islands. The Japanese side calls the southern chickens with the northern territories and does not recognize the Russian sovereignty over them. Moscow in turn does not recognize the fact of the territorial dispute itself. Washington, like Tokyo, believes southern chickens part of Japan.
