The largest fraction of the European Parliament, the European People’s Party (ENP), wanted to turn off Russia from the SWIFT International Payment System. This was stated by the representative of the party at a briefing in Brussels, his words lead RIA Novosti.
The representative of the ENP expressed regrets in connection with the decision of the heads of the EU member states not to introduce additional sanctions against Russia in connection with the intended involvement of Russian special services to the explosions in the warehouse of ammunition in the Czech Vrbetice and the situation around Alexey Navalny (founder of the Foundation for the fight against corruption, Included by the Ministry of Justice in the register of organizations performing functions of a foreign agent). According to him, the faction advocates the expansion of restrictions on Russia. In particular, measures can touch off Russian oligarchs, as well as include prohibitions for travel and even turning off Russia from SWIFT.

On April 5, the Deputy Head of the Foreign Ministry, Alexander Pankin, admitted an alternative to the SWIFT payment system in Russia. SWIFT is an international system of information transfer and payments between banks. Over 11 thousand large organizations in 200 countries are connected to it. Russia is one of the most active participants in the system.
