Germany: called not to link “Northern Stream-2” with situation around Navalny

Minister of Economy and Energy FRG Peter Altmayer urged not to link the implementation of the Northern Stream-2 project with the situation around Alexei Navalny (founder of the Foundation for the Fight of Corruption Included in the Register of Organizations Performing Function Agent) and other individual cases. He stated this in an interview with the Media group “Funkey”, his TASS quotes.

“We should not link to bring to the end of the” Northern Flow-2 “with the Navalny business. We must evaluate and decide on the construction and completion of the gas pipeline, regardless of individual cases,” he said.

According to him, over 50 years of gas supplies have never been “political weapons in relations between East and West,” which went to the use of gas supply. Altmayer recalled that the decision on the construction of the gas pipeline was made long ago, the project was approved “in accordance with the legislative procedures” by the authorities of various European countries.

Previously, the United States did not rule out the introduction of new sanctions against Russia due to the situation with Navalny. Jen Psaki’s spokesman Jen Psaki said that the United States reserves the right to declare further restrictions on individuals and areas of activity on the basis of the executive decree of the US President.

April 15 US President Joe Biden signed a decree on the introduction of new sanctions against Russia. The American leader did not introduce restrictions against the “Northern Flow-2”, but once again spoke against the gas pipeline and did not rule out that it could return to this issue in the future.

Navalny is serving a punishment in a correctional colony number 2 (IR-2) in the Vladimir region. At the end of March, it became known about the worsening of his health, on April 19 in the FSIN reported his translation to the hospital for the convicts.
